Portland on a Monday

Tl;Dr: I’m footloose in Portland on Monday morning. It’s weird.

I caught a local shuttle to the Max station near C’s house, and rode that into Portland. Had a chance to talk with Ja while waiting for coffee at Superjoy. Some old man saw my ‘Structural Dynamics of Flow’ shirt and tell me he’d read that book (the book doesn’t exist). Set off to find a place to make a plan – decided on the Library. On the way I got mooned by one of the street dwellers – inevitable I suppose.

The Library was a good choice – pleasant, clean bathrooms. It was nice to sit for a spell. After reviewing the various museums and attractions, I decided to hit the Tilikum pedestrian bridge, PushXPull coffee, and Tokyo Sando.

The walk was good – saw a bunch of street art, the coffee at PushXPull was really quite good! Tokyo Sando was ok – I liked the food truck staff. It was interesting to see Portland at a slower pace than normal. We usually spend time near Powell’s, which is pretty central and well coifed.

Walking along the waterfront to the foot bridge was uneventful. I saw a SwingBike. The Tilikum bridge was pretty empty.  Walked right by Omsi on the way to PushXPull. Walked past a few other interesting places (KBOO.fm!) but for the most part the businesses were unremarkable. The most remarkable thing was sadly the un-housed and unconscious. Portland still feels like it’s struggling it’s way out of  Covid.

The train was relatively easy, but a little spendy. Spent a fair bit of time standing around in line at Union Station. The train was a bit crowded, and quite noisy – somewhat troublesome.

All in all, an adequate day!
