Welp, I finished.
Rapha 500 is a challenge to ride 500km in the last 8 days of the year. I’ve never done it before, but I was around this year so…. Why not?
I did not expect to finish when I started, but I went pretty hard – several 100km/66 mile days in a row.
I mostly did it on Zwift – which, for the record, is cheating. A Zwift KM is less, much less than a real world KM. But, it is what it is.
When I figured out I was over half way, finishing became almost inevitable. When I figured out I was 90% done… finishing became nearly impossible.
A big part of the motivation was to burn off holiday calories. And… That really didn’t work. I way more now than I did at the start (maybe I’ve built muscle? Or perhaps I’ve avoided the post holiday splurging by indulging in para-holiday splurging). One way or the other – back to regular old diet tomorrow.
Riding in Zwift is good because of the company. The scenery is also kinda amazing, provided you ride a new route. I went on some lovely social rides: ZSun and HERD rides were the best.
Outdoor riding his harder. I put away about 20 miles in 1 hr 45 in the real world, and 15 miles in 45 min in electroland. So, yeah – Zwift is much easier: no traffic, no traffic lights, no navigating…
All I all I’m glad to have done it, but I don’t have a huge sense of accomplishment to be honest – I was looking forward to being done, and now I am, and… That’s that.
