Tl;Dr: Safe & Sound after a rainy ride to Chaco Wash, bike is less muddy. Cuba tomorrow.
Song of the day: 100% Endurance going out to Lava Flow house mate Sarah and Scrum Yoda.
Thank you Jeremy, I have a new strategy for Laurel & Hardy (yes, my saddle sores have named now).. Apparently some rest and care helped, things feel better this morning on the bike.
I was really worried about Peanut Butter Mud on the trail. No need to worry, I found it right here in Grants. This is pretty mild. Still I’m glad I went with the smaller tires for better clearance. We will have to see how the trail is ahead.
Today will be paved with intermittent mud in Grants. That’s basically the routine until Cuba, about 120 miles away.
Turns out Today’s destination was the Chaco Trading center aka Chaco Wash. Laundromat & convenience store with free camping & awesome people.
Rode into and out of an afternoon rain shower, about 90 min of getting soaked. Shakedry jacket it awesome, the rest is being dealt with at Chaco Wash!
Those following my dot might notice some retrograde motion. Yes, I dropped something. Since I do that fairly frequently, I’m an expert at hide & seek. The object was sought and found.
Chaco Wash is a laundromat, gas station & convenience store. It’s about 5 miles (not totally sure on that) north of the nearest town (which seemed well developed), and is situated near a huge solar farm but is actually powered off of propane. They have a small camping plot they’ll let you tent on for free, and the store is pretty well stocked with food.
I got rained on pretty hard riding in – enough to be quite wet. But… They have dryers! They even let me run my clothes for free.
The food is convenience store food, I had a whole frozen pizza, some popcorn, and a few other things. I did not have a Frozadilly – think slushy plus pickle. I kind of regret it – it seems to be unique.
