Things have generally gone pretty well since I started training in earnest. Today, well, not so good.
It started off ok – got some important errands done, and did a 90% for realz pack of my bags. Pleasantly surprised they aren’t busting at the seams. I also got my Fancy RideNow tube in my giant front tire – worked great.
Then, off to go ride Jim’s Hills. Except – where’s my wallet. An hour of searching yeilded nothing. Time to go!
Things were pretty good – a bit of bag rubbing that I eventually fixed after a lot of getting off and getting on again. Nice ride through the center for urban horticulture & the U. Big uphills to volunteer park, the some fun headed down into SLU, and on to Queen Anne.
1/3rd of the way up then climb my chain came off the front chain ring. This had happened once since I changed chains – no biggie, put it back on!
It must have happened 20 times, around the 15th I noticed that one of my sandals dropped off my back bag. And, the other one was gone. Hmph.
Anyway I limped back down to Fremont, and realized I was dropping the chain even without any load. In the wild I would have tried fixing the chain with some extra links, but ya know what? Lesson Learned. I got a gig car home and got dinner cooking.
If this was really 20 miles out in the woods It would have been really, really bad. Good thing I’m practicing.
