Breathe. Hold still, just lay there for a few and chill out. You’re all amped up on Adrenaline so breathe for a few to stop yourself from charging off In a rush.
If you’re injured; this is a good time to grab your phone and Inreach. Decide if you need to call. No? Good. Go back to breathing. Walk around a bit.
Check again if you’re injured. Scraped? Bruises? Bleeding? Get out your med kit and patch things up or take a naproxen. If you’re bleeding: clean it clot it, then tegaderm. If you’re sleepy – call somebody now for advice or push the SOS button.
Make sure you have what was in your pockets: Phone, Wallet, Glasses, Whatever Else. Double check.
Next: check your bike. How are the bags? How’s the bike? Air/Brakes/Chain/Quick Releases. How about Stem, Saddle, check your bags. Re-tighten all the straps. Do you have your tracker? Bike computer?
Next: what went wrong? Do you need to fix that before you go on?
Next: Look over your Departure Checklist. You’re leaving someplace, let’s not have to come back to it in 30 min, eh?
Ok – Take a breath or 10. Congratulate yourself on successfully falling off a bicycle and a landing you can walk away from. Check a 5th time that you have everything and get back in the saddle.
