Day 4: A lot in the hot

Tl;Dr: 66 miles, quite a slog at the end. I’ll never ride tpu tubes again.

This is our 2nd day of riding, it’s a long one. The heat was pretty bad yesterday, so many opted to take the train (smart move). John and I: not as smart.

We left at 5:45 and made it a whole 30 minutes before Flat #1.  Quick substitute, then off again for a fairly Urban ride along a bike path much like the Burke in Seattle. But that’s not the Bruce way, so of into the fields we went. Rough gravel, some unrideably rough, until we found this:

A… Stone Shed!

More rough pavement and trail through little towns, and flat #2. We hit another canal side bukre-like trail. Some zooming ensued until John struck up conversation with a Car Driver – our new friend JC gave us coca-cola, water and a genuine show of friendliness!

More bike-path zooming until we hit Lattes. Our friends were just 10 min away at Le Chappelle du Quartier Haut. We rode out the spit to a motorized aqua-swing bridge, crossed over and met Bruce, Chaz & co.

We started riding down the spit, but I got another (3rd) flat. I sent them on, fixed things up and started riding back through the outskirts of Sette.

The Google Map route was direct, but not pleasent. Some bike paths, some high way shoulder. I was quite tired and finally promised myself I would stop at the next food place and did. Emergency Baguette Snackage ensued.

The country side is very agricultural. The sound of the Cicadas is nearly constant. Feels like we are getting more tropical, but maybe that’s just the sea. Sette is right in the Mediterranean, maybe even closer to the water than Seattle.
