Day 10: Repair & Recover pt 2

Tl;Dr: gonna hang out in Grants another day and futz with brakes

Interesting articles that have caught my attention:

Left Brake is still acting up, and Right brake is very squeaky. Lava Flow house has a repair stand and I now carry a syringe for bleeding, so I’ll take the time to bleed & change front pads.

Mt. Taylor coffee is in walking distance, got my morning Joe & a cinnamon bun there. Met Sean who’s in Grants taking care of parents. He also helped out with the first real “I lost it” moment, brought me my wallet from the coffee shop. Thank you Sean!

For tomorrow:  Grants to TBD, then Cuba.

The route to Cuba is almost all paved, and not a ton of elevation, so a long 120 mile day seems possible, but given my recent trends somewhat unlikely. I’ll probably camp at or after Ojo Frio.

I got some camp supplies in Grants, so I’m good on food.

Looking ahead – the hard part starts after Cuba. So far the elevation has been up to 8k feet, but mostly around 7k (twice as high as Snoqualmie pass). After Cuba it will be up to almost 12,000 feet max, and average more like 9k. Whoaf.  So, feeling a bit of trepidation about that.
