Day 5 plan: Black Canyon campground

The next town is Pietown, some 180 miles & 16k feet of elevation away (those are the conservative numbers, probably 20 miles more TBH). Zero chance of doing that in a day.

Most folks seem to stop at Beaverhead – 80+ miles and over 11k feet of elevation. That sounds like a lot. Yesterday was 5,300 ft and I was pooped.

So, the next reasonable choice is Black Canyon – there’s a stream for water, and only 7k-ish of elevation.

“the next reasonable choice is Black Canyon – there’s a stream for water, and only 7k-ish of elevation.” That is a lot of elevation game in a day and you can do it. Hopefully with the elevation gain you’re getting cooler temperatures at least.

Dave, finally picked up your update stream and read from the beginning to this one . . . what an incredible, a little crazy, journey of planning, endurance and will power . . . and maybe a little Reeck stubbornness or maybe we can attribute that to your Wonderly gene pool! Quite amazing and thankful I can ride along at 78 from the comfort of my Oregon home. Praying for safety! Love the photos. One quick question . . . what is an “outlaw shower?!” Do I want to know??? Motel 6 discouraged use of the shower & tub by making it generally unpleasant. But necessity – mother of invention :-).
      Wonderly stubbornness in full force.
